Spotted: Bay Window Bus in an old Burger Chef Commercial

February 4, 2017

Burger who? It’s funny to think that this one time fast food giant was once serious competition for McDonald’s. My personal experience as a child, the food was so-so and the giveaways were fairly lame, but the restaurant buildings were very nicely designed. While the very last Burger Chef is said to have disappeared as late as 1996 this TV commercial looks to be  from 1971, the chain’s heyday in the early to mid 70s. A kids football team heads in to their local Burger Chef for some food after the game. Below, some screen capture highlights for VW van fans.

Danbury Still Has Last Edition Kombis!

January 17, 2017

It’s 2017 and I’m delirious with envy, who will end up buying these beauties? My buses keep me busy and I don’t have a spare forty-one thousand pounds lying around, but this would make a great get around vehicle, or maybe a winery tour bus…dreaming. Nice to look at the site and imagine. My Last Kombi thread is here.

Factory Television Presents – “My Van” featuring Martin

March 21, 2015

Factory Television is a video production house in the U.K. With a calling card like this YouTube exclusive they must be quite busy. One can really empathize with Martin and his desire to have one of the most iconic vehicles of all time, the Volkswagen camper van. There are other videos in the “My Van” series, well done.

Classic Car Rescue takes on a Volkswagen Splitty

March 7, 2015

In this Canadian British collaboration you’ll see a very rusty 1966 split window Volkswagen camper reborn. Although the pre-68 VW bus hobby is quickly becoming a rich man’s sport, it is nice to see one return to the road. Happy viewing.

VW Road Movie – Matt Palka’s Musical Journey

November 4, 2012

VW Bus Tour: Americana Bohemia” is a 2009 film by Matt Palka, a creative journey that puts the “Just Do It” philosophy in motion in the form of an early bay Volkswagen camper. As my grandmother used to say, “don’t wait for someone to give you a job, go out and make your own.” This is what Matt does, self publishing his book and CD to get the ball rolling. He travels the U.S. playing small venues with his guitar and selling  his novel along the way. The movie is just over an hour and 40 minutes, good fun. The trailer is above, the full movie below. Warning: occasional swearing.
