Hasta Alaska Adventure hits Bureaucratic Snag

March 12, 2016

So close but so far away, I can’t believe this four year journey could be at an end. As Ben explains in this new video, U.S. immigration has denied him a tourist visa therefore preventing him from returning to Alaska to finish the trip in summer 2016. My only input is that since Ben’s dog Alaska and his travel companion are currently in Canada, he could join them and file for another U.S. tourist visa from Canada. This section from the U.S. Immigration site offers hope.

Wheeler Dealers search for a Kombi in Brazil

March 12, 2016

I can’t believe I missed this one. Here’s a promo for the British TV series Wheeler Dealers, this time they’re off to Brazil where the bay window bus was manufactured until the end of 2013, albeit from 2006 with a water-cooled engine. They’re in search of a bus to fix up with around $18,000 in their pocket. Now to find the full program.

The Kombi Remembered on Deutsche Welle TV

January 25, 2016

Here’s a great piece by Deutsche Welle TV celebrating Volkswagen of Germany’s stalwart South American cousin. This particular 2007 model is a 50th anniversary edition marking a half century of Kombi production in Brazil.  With a production run that began in post war Germany and finished in Brazil at the end of 2013, the VW bus should be around for a long time to come.

Factory Television Presents – “My Van” featuring Martin

March 21, 2015

Factory Television is a video production house in the U.K. With a calling card like this YouTube exclusive they must be quite busy. One can really empathize with Martin and his desire to have one of the most iconic vehicles of all time, the Volkswagen camper van. There are other videos in the “My Van” series, well done.

Jay Leno’s Garage – Gabriel Iglesias’ ’66 Samba Bus

March 16, 2015

It’s a great show, Jay Leno’s Garage on Youtube. I think he’s found his true calling mixing his passion for cars with his TV persona. Here we find comedian Gabriel Iglesias showing off his 1966 Volkswagen Samba. He recalls buying his first car, a similar bus in much worse shape than this one, for $700. Gabriel mentions the ’66 featured here is probably worth around $100,000! In my opinion, no car has appreciated so rapidly and so high as the Volkswagen bus of late. He asks Jay not to take it on the freeway, but he does anyway. The reason for his concern was a sloppy steering box, but he didn’t come out and say it. All went well and the two funny men wind up at a local L.A. eatery.

Classic Car Rescue takes on a Volkswagen Splitty

March 7, 2015

In this Canadian British collaboration you’ll see a very rusty 1966 split window Volkswagen camper reborn. Although the pre-68 VW bus hobby is quickly becoming a rich man’s sport, it is nice to see one return to the road. Happy viewing.

A Year Since the End of Kombi Production

January 10, 2015

It’s been just over a year since Volkswagen Brasil stopped manufacturing the Kombi, but there are still many on the road. In fact, with ever increasing interest in the Type 2 people are going to be taking special care of the ones that remain. Today’s feature video comes from broadcaster Deutsche Welle in Germany. A nicely produced VW bus tribute from February 2014.
