NEWSFLASH – Kombi Production Might Continue

Big news out of Brazil. Finance Minister Guido Mantega has made comments to the effect that he is looking into the possibility of making the Type 2 Volkswagen van an exception to new impending safety standards in the South American country. The reason? The VW microbus is seen as unique, and owing in big part to its legendary status it could well get a pass when it comes to ABS and airbag requirements. In fact due to hot demand, production of the Last Edition Kombi has doubled to 1200 even with a price tag of a reported $36,000 to $43,000.

This would be a great Christmas gift to the world of Volkswagen enthusiasts, continuing with a 63 year old tradition. Certainly Danbury Motor Caravans in the UK would keep on buying them for their camper conversions. Who knows, maybe the governments of the U.S. and Canada would lift their ban of the importation of new Kombis. Let’s keep our fingers crossed on this one.
