Another Dutch Volkswagen camper adventure!

Dutch Camper

Even in the 21st century the classic VW camper is king. Michel van Velde and Elles Albering are the driving force behind Drive The Planet, another Dutch Volkswagen adventure. They have a book about their travels that took them from their native Netherlands through China raising money for SOS Children’s villages. I smile as I see them referring to their “volkswagen oldtimer campervan,” personally I still think the Type IIs look quite new and stylish. So what if they were made between 1968 and 1979, of course they live on in south America, see Brazil’s New Type IIs. A combination of sand in their shoes and a desire to be aid workers led them to cook up an idea that would fulfill both dreams. The camper is a 1976 model that began as a humble van and was later kitted out as a Devon conversion. Then they really prepared it for an epic journey by upgrading and reinforcing much of the structure.
